About a year ago, I was once again at Bradley International Airport in Hartford, CT. At the time, I was working for ING and traveling between Hartford and my home in Atlanta about twice a month. I wanted to bring something for the kids, but given how frequently I was traveling, it seemed like I had already bought one of everything. T-shirts? Had enough. Plush toys? Check. Snow globes? Yup.
I started looking for something that would help them understand where I was and why I had to travel. Then the idea for these books hit me. Why not write a book about my travels, one book for each city I went to?
The idea was born and the books are (almost!) here. (We expect to publish by October 1, 2004.)
Part of the project includes this blog. The idea is to help business traveling parents share their experiences with each other, so that the most important connection in business travel -- the one between children and parents -- can be made just a little bit easier.
In the coming weeks and months, we'll be posting "tips and hints" from Dr. Sherryl Goodman, Ph.D. She's helped us by developing a straight forward, practical list of things that we can all do to deal with this issue.
In the meantime, how do you think kids explain your business trips to their friends? Do you think they understand why you're traveling?
